Winter semester 2026/27
In the first semester at the University of Porto, I teach the following curricular units.
Statistical Inference (M4061) and Statistical Inference A (M4169)
With Eliana Duarte. The two curricular units M4061 and M4169 are taught together. We will cover the basics of statistical inference, such as statistical models, point and interval estimation, confidence intervals, parametric and nonparametric hypothesis testing and Bayesian inference. The course also includes practical applications using the R programming language.
There is a Google Site with the teaching material (slides, worksheets and live exercises), which will be made available on invitation. If you intend to participate in the course, please send an email to me or to Eliana Duarte and we will share the site with you.

Prior experience with R is not required. The course will use R for selected exercises, so please install it before the first computational session.
You can Install R from the official CRAN website and use it from your system’s terminal. If you prefer using an IDE, then a popular choice is RStudio Desktop. R must be installed before RStudio. Further information is available in the official RStudio getting-started guide. To check your installation, open R or RStudio and run:
R.version.string
mean(c(1, 2, 3))
If the second command returns 2, then your installation is working.
Linear Algebra and Analytic Geometry I (M1010)
With Gabriela Chaves and António Leite. The course introduces systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear maps, matrices and determinants.

There are two parallel lectures. They take place on Wednesdays from 16 September to 9 December, over 12 teaching weeks, and will cover the same material.

Parallel TP classes
Each of the five TP groups has one Wednesday session and one Friday session. All five groups cover the same material. You should attend both sessions of the group indicated in your personalised timetable provided by the university administration.
